A journey to find one of the world’s largest collections of ancient pyramids. And the lesser-seen sides of one of the world’s most misunderstood countries that were long-ravaged by terrorism and civil war.

My friends and I spent a week in Sudan with Salma as our guide. Some of the highlights included ruins of the ancient temples in Naga'a, camel rides in the desert, sunrise over the pyramids in Meroe, running down the sandy side of Jebel Barkal with local kids, participating in the Sufi ceremony in Omdurman, and going for a boat ride to see the convergence of the White Nile and Blue Nile. Salma did an excellent job of explaining the history of all of the sites, as well as making sure that we had good options for food, which isn't always easy in the desert! I have so many fond memories from Sudan: I hope to return someday and see the rest of the country with Salma!
